Interior

At the time we bought the boat, there was also overdue maintenance on the inside. The boat stank a lot in the cabin, because the toilet pipe had become porous. Also, the previous owner had smoked and there were many leaks. This created a musty smell. It was nice to be the new owner, but we still had a lot to do to feel at home.

We started by first maintaining everything. For example, the toilet got new rubbers and pipes. All the screws on the windows were coated with butyl tape and tightened properly. All the rotten spots we could find in the deck were repaired and finally everything was cleaned well. We made everything so that we can access it better next time. For example, the finishing panels of the windows are attached with professional Velcro. With the next leak, we can now access it more easily.

The Cabin

We haven’t changed much about the cabin. It has been mostly sight work. A lick of paint and a new fabric on the cushions gives a totally different picture.

We have mainly changed small things. Like installing a fan or a new, smaller table. We also wanted to be able to take the floor parts out, to check the bilge and keel bolts. The previous owner had put a floor in the cabin witch was one piece. Because it was glued down, it was difficult to get under the floor. We put in a new PVC floor with insulation. We also made handels in the floor so we could easily lift the parts out.

Martijn just started painting the cabin.

It was a rainy day. But work had to go on. Irene making a handel in the cabin floor.

The Galley

The galley looked a bit dated in our opinion, and we found some things not practical. For example, if you are not very tall, it was difficult to reach the cutlery in the cabinet behind the sink. We made drawers for the cutlery. Also, the sink was so small that you just couldn’t put down a decent cutting board. For doing the dishes there were 2 sinks. Only they were so small that you couldn’t put a plate on them.

We made the countertop a little deeper and installed a new sink.

We gave everything a new color with a white countertop.

The head

The head was the last thing we gave a refit. This one seemed pretty neat at first glance. Still, you always come across things once you start breaking. The floor turned out to be totally rotten due to a leakage from the window. Between the partitions there was water under the floor! Since the floor in the head couldn’t come out either, this hadn’t occurred to us. Fortunately, only the floor had started to rot and the bulkheads to the cabin and bedroom were still intact. After discovering this we decided to make only an outdoor shower on the boat.
