We are always in search for adventure!

On this website we keep you updated of our sailing trip.

In 2020, we bought our 2nd boat. A 37 foot sailboat, model Gin Fizz from 1975. For four years we worked hard on this boat to get it leaking fee and safe to sail.

In July 2024 we left with our sailboat for a world trip. Without any sea experience. We just started the adventure.

Who we are

We are Martijn and Irene. A steady (standard) job in a nice city was not what made us happy. It had to be different, but 'how' was and remains a quest. We love traveling, water sports and like to take on a challenge. In the winter of 2015/2016 we designed and built our own tiny house. We enjoyed living in it for 8 years. Now it's time for a new adventure!

Our route

July 1st 2024 we started this journey. We have now completed 8000 nordical miles. In Santa Marta, Colombia we waited out the hurricane season. In the end of December we had a heavy upwind sail towards the Dominican Republic. From there we sailed to the Bahama's.

Our plan

We don't have a concrete plan on exactly where we want to sail. And when we do make a plan, chances are it will have changed again by the end of next week. The goal is to build a life on the water and have great adventures. The destinations we choose as we go, also depending on where the wind takes us. At the beginning of this trip we had no idea if we would ever make it to northern Spain. How proud we were when we did. Our first crossing was to the Canary Islands. We had no idea how our bodies would react to a 3-hour on/3-hour rest schedule. Luckily that went well. We have now even crossed the Atlantic Ocean!

We enjoying the Carribean for a year now. It is beautiful here and we made some unforgettable adventures. Despite of that, we are now looking forward to go back to Europa. In June/July we will cross the Atlantic ones more to explore the Mediterranean.

An autarkic life on the water

Our plan is to live closer to nature and be autarkic as much as possible.

Lifestyle instead of vacation

We want to make it an adventure with no time limit. It will have to become a lifestyle within which we can provide for ourselves in our basic needs.

How to realize a boat adventure without budget or knowledge.

Both of us have no sailing background. At the time this dream was forming in our heads, we also did not have a budget.
